Ομιλία του δασκάλου της χρονιάς στις ΗΠΑ, John Taylor Gatto

Όταν το 1990, για δεύτερη συνεχόμενη χρονιά, απονεμήθηκε στον John Taylor Gatto ο τίτλος του «Δασκάλου της Χρονιάς της Νέας Υόρκης» στην ομιλία αποδοχής του τίτλου που εκφώνησε, δεν αρκέστηκε σε απλές ευχαριστίες, αλλά εξαπέλυσε ένα δριμύ κατηγορώ στην συμβατική λογική που διέπει την εκπαίδευση. Μίλησε για το ρόλο που πρέπει να διαδραματίζει η εκπαίδευση για το άτομο, την οικογένεια και την κοινωνία στην σύγχρονη εποχή. Δεν απευθύνθηκε μόνο στη Νέα Υόρκη και τους μαθητές του.

Homeschooling family picnic

During our homeschooling meeting on Sunday we decided that our next step as a group should be a meeting with our families, so that we can start a community in practice. Therefore we are planning a family picnic on Sunday May 5th at 11 am, in the Tatoi park in Varimbobi, close to the old stables and the swings.

Στην συνάντηση homeschooling της Κυριακής αποφασίσαμε ότι το επόμενο βήμα μας θα είναι μια συνάντηση με τις οικογένειές μας, έτσι ώστε να δημιουργήσουμε μια κοινότητα στην πράξη. Κανονίσαμε λοιπόν ένα οικογενειακό πικνίκ στο Κτήμα Τατοϊου στη Βαρυμπόμπη την Κυριακή 5 Ιουνίου στις 11 το πρωί, κοντά στους παλιούς στάβλους και τις κούνιες.

Informal Learning: An Interview With Dr Alan Thomas

Dr Thomas is a developmental psychologist, author and a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Education in the UK. Dr Thomas explains about his research into how children learn and his investigation into autonomous, or informal learning.

Clonlara School

We recently heard about Clonlara, a school in Michigan in the USA where they believe that "a school must empower students to participate purposefully and eagerly in their own educations." Their philosophy is very student-centered. According to their website: "Clonlara School's mission is to provide programs and services that recognize and support a leaner's curiosity, strengths, interests and talents as the foundation of his/her educational experience and nurture the spark that every child is born with".
They also offer a home-based program, as they are firm believers in home education and have been supporting homeschoolers in the US and abroad for many decades.
